Beautiful Local Grenadian Art & Must Have Books

Every little piece of artistry seems to call your name and say, "take me home" in a graceful siren song.
There are plenty of great shops and galleries to visit for unique, one-of-a-kind gifts and souvenirs in Grenada. Right around the corner from Grenada Museum and House of Chocolate, is the Esplanade Shopping Complex on Melville Street. Art & Tings, D’s #1 Spice Shop, and Oasis Spices & Gift Shop offer locally made artworks, jewelry, spices like nutmeg, saffron, vanilla, and curry, and clothing.
Although I didn't photograph my time at Art Upstairs Gallery (my phone had died miserably), it is a lovely, spacious environment filled with a wide range of bright, colorful artworks by local and some international artists. I met artist Stacey Byer, a local artist and children's book illustrator (who graduated from Ringling College of Art and Design in Florida) and her sweet mother. We had such a wonderful talk in that wonderful, inviting gallery of artists living and those who had long passed to the ancestral plane.

The Spiceland Mall is another popular spot.

At the IGA, there were a score of vegan grocery options like Follow Your Heart Shreds, Almond Breeze almond milks, breads without shortening, and of course all the local chocolate. I regret purchasing groceries at Foodland (a main albeit overpriced grocery store) and random neighborhood corner stores. If I discovered IGA earlier, my trip would have been much different. Alas, at least I know it exists.

Chocolate continued.

In addition to books, Art & Soul Books sells a nice range of art supplies.

Sketchbooks, pens, markers, pencils, paints, and canvases are on hand.

Susan Mains Gallery was just superb. Susan, who runs the gallery, showcases local Grenadian artists' from paintings, mixed media, to sculpture.

Susan also sells handmade charcoal....

and chocolate.

They really love chocolate here in Grenada.
Across the street and a moment away from House of Chocolate, Art Fabrik is an awesome place. Fabrics, clothing, jewelry, tree free paper, and even chocolate is available.

Some businesses have the most gorgeously crafted doorknobs. Art Fabrik is no exception.
