My friend took days off and gave the grand tour of the rich district of York. But first, she made a beautiful breakfast with one of Toronto's best vegan imports Bute Island Foods' Sheese and Daiya's Cheddar on tortillas. Our plates also contain refried beans, sliced apples (mine with yummy cinnamon and cashew butter), and cups hold fruity smoothies. |
Last year, I posted a little series about Toronto.
Read Part I and Part II.
This is a much ado reflection of one travel regret of 2017: Toronto, a place I miss.
I didn’t have enough time to squeeze this in. Next year
is a promise.
It remains the only Canadian province I’ve visited thus far, having spent a day or weeks
during winter, spring, and summer. Their casual summer breezes are heavily
reminiscent of Philly’s pleasant autumn temperatures. Of course, summer was my
favorite of the three experiences—warm, gorgeous weather made for great long
walks along Bloor Street. For today, I focus back on a splendid March, enjoying
fashionable sights and sounds, eating mouthwatering food alongside most amazing
friend for company. I am beyond fortunate to have an amazingly sweet second family to “come
home” to.

A bit of York life. |

Nunu was my first Ethiopian food experience, a taste of a culture longed to envision in person someday. |
|
First course: East African Onion Soup, smooth and hot, very broth-y, also rich and hearty. |
|
Before we were granted the full on shared meal enjoyment, our waitress gave us all hot towels to clean our hands. Thankfully, my friends wanted to eat the vegetarian platter which includes split pea curry in two ways, collard greens, red and golden beets, black lentils, red lentils, and pan fried green beans with carrots. It was such a beautiful, extravagant way of eating, folding up thin, bubbled bread, piecing it off, scooping up different dishes. The food is gorgeous and flavorful. |

A look inside Nunu. |
|
The lights looked like broken director's chairs bask in warm glow. |
|
Posing with the food. R.I.P. to that old Canon *which hilariously enough took all the photos in this post). |

Basquait spray painting back in his SAMO days. Learn more about that amazing exhibit here. |

This was my first time to Hogtown Vegan, on 3.14, Pi Day. |
|
Us and food. |
|
The chik'n and waffles (with breakfast potatoes) still simmer in my mind. My friend had the taco. |
|
We split a deep fried apple pie ala mode. |

Pi and pie. |

The money is pretty. |
|
Apparently, moose are a huge thing in Toronto by the way. |

Ah, the last picture of Basquiat's show in Art Gallery of Ontario. I'll never forget how wonderful feelings reached an eye opening peak. |
Toronto rocks. Hogtown Vegan is delightful! I must get back up there; it's been too long.
